The NASUWT is pleased to formally announce the re-election of Chris Keates as General Secretary of the NASUWT, the largest and the leading union representing teachers in the UK.

Ms Keates was re-elected unopposed for a third term of office, following nominations received from NASUWT branches throughout the UK and with the endorsement of the Union’s National Executive.
Geoff Branner, President of the NASUWT, said:

“I am delighted that Chris will continue to lead the NASUWT in the period ahead. We are in very safe hands.

“Chris is an enormously respected and extraordinarily able General Secretary who has led the NASUWT as the largest union representing teachers across the UK.

“To be re-elected unopposed is an overwhelming endorsement of Chris’s hard work on behalf of NASUWT members and a tribute to her leadership qualities and negotiating skills.

“With the re-election of Chris as NASUWT General Secretary, the Union can be confident of being in the best position to secure further improvements for members.”

Chris Keates, General Secretary, said:

“I feel very privileged to be re-elected as General Secretary of the largest and leading teachers’ union in the UK.

“The continuing support I have received from the National Executive, Local Associations and members means a great deal to me and I am most grateful for it.

“These are very challenging times for the teaching profession. Now more than ever it is critical that they have a strong union like the NASUWT to champion their cause.

“I will continue to do my very best to ensure the NASUWT goes from strength to strength improving the working lives of all teachers, so that they in turn can provide a quality education for the children they teach.”
