SECONDARY PERFORMANCE LEAGUE TABLES

NASUWT: North Yorkshire Federation

Chris Head, North Yorkshire Federation Secretary for NASUWT, comments on the – SECONDARY PERFORMANCE LEAGUE TABLES

Commenting on the publication of the secondary school and college performance tables by the Department for Education (DfE) today, Chris said:

“Every year the Coalition Government has changed the basis on which school performance is measured.

“It’s unacceptable that schools, teachers, parents and children are subjected to this negative annual ritual.

“A recent poll of parents showed that punitive ranking of schools in performance league tables is not something on which the majority of parents rely when making judgements about a school.”

A recent survey of parents, carried out by polling company ComRes and commissioned by the NASUWT, found that fewer than a third of parents (29%) checked the league table position when choosing a school.

The ComRes parents poll is available on the NASUWT website.
